Red face AC On Always

Hello folks, my wife car is a Ford Taurus 2006.

I wonder is this a popular problem, or what can I check.

The Point is that the AC is on always, no matter what that
ac is working and throwing cool air all the time.

Only when the Air flow selections switch is off, then ac will go off.

Thanks

Re: AC On Always

Do you have the owner's manual? The way the system in the Taurus (and several other makes and models) is the A/C is engaged for most of the HVAC settings. There are only a couple of settings that do not involve the A/C. Those settings should be identified in the owner's manual section for the HVAC operation.

If you get cool air even when the temperature control is set to hot, that is a different scenario though and then it would sound like a blend door issue.

Re: AC On Always

On that button, to the left very clear said AC on one of the positions.
So if not on AC, why it should keep working?

Most cars in the defrost mode, a/c runs.

You would be surprised. Just like they all read their owner's manual...

Re: AC On Always

You don't mention if you have the manual controls or the electronic automatic controls. The owner's manual does a better job of explaining when the A/C compressor will be engaged with the auto controls. Below are excerpts of how the manual system works. You might want to confirm whether or not this is how your wife's Taurus operates. If so, it's normal. If not, you have more diagnostics to do.
------------
MAX A/C
When MAX A/C is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, closing off outside air and admitting only recirculated air.
  • the defrost door and floor console duct door (if equipped) vacuum control motors are at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
  • blended air temperature is available.
  • the A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
  • the blower motor is ON.
A/C
When A/C is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the defrost door vacuum control motors are at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
  • blended air temperature is available.
  • the A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
  • the blower motor is ON.
PANEL
When PANEL is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the defrost door vacuum control motors are at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
  • the temperature can be adjusted to heat the air, but the air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
  • the A/C compressor will not operate.
  • the blower motor is ON.
OFF
When OFF is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, closing off outside air from entering the passenger compartment.
  • the defrost door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, closing off airflow to the defrost duct, side window demisters, floor duct, instrument panel A/C registers.
  • the A/C compressor will not operate.
  • the blower motor is OFF.
PANEL/FLOOR
When PANEL/FLOOR is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the defrost door vacuum control motors are at full vacuum and the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct, the instrument panel A/C registers. A small amount of airflow from the side window demisters will be present.
  • the A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
  • the blower motor is ON.
FLOOR
When FLOOR is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the defrost door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct.
  • blended air temperature is available.
  • the A/C compressor will not operate.
  • the blower motor is ON.
FLOOR/DEFROST
When FLOOR/DEFROST is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum and the defrost door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct, the defroster duct and the side window demisters.
  • the temperature can be adjusted to heat or cool the air below the outside temperature.
  • the A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
  • the blower motor is ON.
DEFROST
When DEFROST is selected:
  • the air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into the passenger compartment.
  • the panel/floor door, defrost door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, directing airflow to the defroster duct and the side window demisters.
  • the temperature can be adjusted to heat or cool the air below the outside temperature.
  • the A/C compressor will operate if the outside temperature is above approximately 6°C (43°F).
  • the blower motor is ON.
