Re: Po 193

My last Windstar was 1998 and had the Schrader valve. My 2005 Expedition does not have a Schrader valve. It has a Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor that has an electrical connector that sends to the PCM the fuel pressure and also has a vacuum line that sends the related vacuum information to the PCM for use in determining how much fuel pressure to feed. Hooking up to the ODB II will give you the fuel pressure reading. If you want to use an outside meter, you have to install an adapter underneath the Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is what I have read. Since I'm not familiar with your year Freestar, I can't say that it is the same.

Re: Po 193

There is no service/pressure port on the 2005 Freestar according to the factory service manual. In the manual, if pressure readings are required, the technician is instructed to install an "Adapter Spring Lock Coupling (310-100)". A professional scan tool should be able to monitor the fuel rail pressure utilizing the fuel pressure sensor that Comet mentioned above. Considering the description for a P0193 diagnostic code, seeing what the pressure sensor is reading would be prudent.

Description: The comprehensive component monitor (CCM) monitors the FRP sensor circuit to the powertrain control module (PCM) for high voltage. If voltage exceeds a calibrated limit for a calibrated amount of time during testing, the test fails.

Possible Causes:
  • FRP signal shorted to VREF or VPWR
  • FRP signal open
  • Damaged FRP sensor

Diagnostic Aids: An FRP signal high condition can be caused by any number of conditions, including a short on FRP signal to VREF, a more positive voltage level, an open FRP signal or signal return. The FRP signal line is pulled up by the PCM and VREF at the sensor, and down by the sensor through SIGRTN.
