P0401, then P0402
'02 Escape 3.0 liter V-6 w/100+k, started to idle a little rough, and lit the CEL. A P0401 code was set, and after replacing the EGR valve, solenoid, sensor, and any and all hoses EGR related, we now have a P0402 code and the rough idle. Where do we go from here?
Thanks |

Re: P0401, then P0402
Replace the DPFE sensor and check the 2 hoses to it for melting and cracks. It's alot cheaper and easier than an EGR valve. Pretty common on Fords.

Re: P0401, then P0402
Most likely your front two catalytic converters have started to lose their guts and are clogging up the main catalytic converter. The EGR tube is between them and because the exhaust gas has no where to go, it is forcing itself into the EGR and most likely it will explode at some point that it can no longer take the pressure. Especially if you get the rpm's much above 2,500. Take off the back cat and bang the front opening on the ground to see what comes out.

Re: P0401, then P0402
A cracked intake plenum, and EGR solenoid replacements fixed the problem. Thanks for the input.
