I Think I Bit Off More Than I Can Chew - Citroen Xsara WRC

I've read nothing but bad reviews about Heller's Citroen Xsara WRC kit. Regardless, I still want it in my collection since I like the car. After opening the box, I can see why this is so bad after getting used to Tamiya quality.

Here are some of the terrible molded details:

Decals:

OK, so this will be my attempt to polish the turd as the saying goes.

First, I got the Studio 27 grade-up kit and '02 Monte Carlo decals:

Next, this will be my most ambitious project ever by opening the doors. I never would've attempt this a short while ago, but after finding my way to this forum, I've been inspired to do more challenging projects. This place is awesome.

Yeah, I guess it's like that. If you really want to do it your really gonna do it. (I'm speaking in general)

Your doing great!

Someone here has built the kit, I just don't know who.

Great, great, great. I'll follow this thread with great interest.

Now I know why the Heller kits are sooo cheap.
Details are crap, decals as well.

Good luck on this one, you'll need it

I have no idea how I will hinge the doors yet. Still figuring it out.

Thanks for that link, bah humbug. I do recall that thread now. I'm hoping the exterior will come out that good.

Marco, I'll need all the luck I can get. I just realized the rear side windows along with the pillars are not correct. It's going to be a lot more work than I thought. What did I get myself into?

These are the type of hinges i used.

this is made out of aluminum wire, then got brass tubing that was thin, and the wire (hinge) fit nice and snug, but was still able to move. You glue the tube onto the body, then slide the wire into it, and walla, a working hinge. It does take some time to get the shape perfect though.

Hope that helps ya.

Good luck with the kit. It sure does require a lot of work.

Seb did a great job with his Xsara, he had some great ideas that I plan to steal shamelessly when I do mine pretty soon.

Nice job on the doors.

That s nice to see another xsara build here !!!
Very very good start !!!!
And when we know the kit and the thickness of the bodykit, cutting doors is a real hard to do job !!! Congrats !!!!!

It's going to look fabulous!

Very nice doors!

I do agree most Heller kits are plain shit, but hey, I guess we are just too much spoiled by Big T ...
I guess by building and completing this car, you 'll find 100 times more satisfaction.... real modeling

Keep up the awesome work!

Just a quick upddate. I started work around the door opening area. The pillars were removed and rebuilt.

I added styrene around the edges.

Now, the tough part is the area where the hinge will be. The sides of the dash will need to be completed. Then I will need to figure out exactly where to put the hinges. I have plenty of reference pictures, but none of them shows the hinge area.

Well, that's it for now. I am heading out to the UK for a friend's wedding, so I won't be able to work on it for a while.

Bob
