2008 Town & Country EGR valve

I am replacing the EGR valve on my 08 T&C. My questions are:

1. With how much torque should I tighten the bolts
2. Is there anything in particular I should look out for or be careful of?

I just had to pay to replace the tranny so I am trying to save some $$ on this repair. Thanks!

When I replace them I just make sure the bolts are good and snug, they don't have to be extremely tight. Make sure to unhook the negative post of the battery. Doing this will reset the erasable memory in the PCM. A lot of the times these valves will stick and the PCM will store the wrong data. I have replaced them before without disconnecting the battery and had the codes come back when there was nothing wrong. Ohh, and FYI the small gasket that is on the outlet tube running to the intake, some of the replacement valves do not come with this gasket, may not hurt to see if the gasket comes with the valve and I have found it easier to use the old bolts that bolt the valve to the engine. In my opinion I have found it easier to screw the old bolts back in then the new ones.

When I remove the old one, is there anything I need to do to prep any surfaces before attaching the new one? Also, is there anything I need to be careful of when doing the repacement?

The gasket between the valve and the engine is a thin metal gasket, so it wont leave anything behind to clean. The other gasket is like a paper material but it doesn't usually come apart to bad as long as you don't get rough with it. If anything you may check the outlet tube to the intake where the gasket sits, make sure there are no big chunks of the old gasket. If the replacement valve did not come with a new gasket for the outlet tube, I have reused the old ones. Just make sure not to drop the old gasket or tear it up to much. The bolts that mount the valve to the engine are usually a 10mm socket and the outlet tube takes a 8mm. I have found it easier to take the outlet tube all the way off to give you more room. Where the other end of the tube mounts to the intake is a rubber gasket, I wouldn't worry about replacing it. I never have and I haven't had any issues. I will warn you... The some of the EGR valves I have replaced the mounting bolts to the engine may seem really tight when you break them loose.

Thank you for all the information. I truly appreciate it. Would it be a good idea to hit the bolts with PB Blaster before removing the old part?

Your welcome. I've never sprayed them with anything to break them loose. It wouldn't hurt anything if you did.
