Exclamation Need Help FAST!!!!

hey guys, this morning my car wasn't right, it would crank up, but then when i released the key, it would cut off, i noticed that when it was cranked up for that split second that the RPMs were only at about 200/second.....and while i was going down the road the engine would like rev, and slow down like there wasn't any power and the RPM level would go to zero, back up to about 3000-4000, then back down to zero like the needle was jumping, so i downshifted and tried to give it gas and it was liek there was no power, but then when i pressed the gas again everything was fine. Any idea's what my problems would be? It's not the timing belt, because it was just replaced when i got the car, and it's fine, it might be the alternator, or the starter, and earlier when i cranked it, i jiggled the key around, and it cranked, but then a second ago i thought there might be a loose wire in the starter so i took off the ignition cover, and all the wires were fine. Anybody who can give me any advice on what the problem might be would be greatly appreciated...thanks....

ignitor or coil - The tach gets its signal from the coil/dizzy assembly. if the coil or ignitor is bad, the gauge will read zero.

Can't tell you which one, but one of those. There was a recall on ignitors on our cars..it is a small 'D' shaped thing with some connectors on the ends...inside the dizzy. If I remember another discussion correctly, the BAD ones originally are black, and the new ones that Honda put in were brown (if it was replaced before you owned the car.) You should be able to call up Honda and get it replaced for free after they check your VIN. They'll have a record if it is was done. Or you can get one from Auto Zone or equivelant for about $65, but I never trust ignition/electrical parts that aren't OEM.

The days of that continuing to work are numbered, don't trust your car to get you anywhere 'til it's fixed.

Yes..inside the distributor cap. I don't think your problem has anything to do with the ignition key, etc...

Yep, bye-bye igntior. Real easy to repalce through. Jsut take oof the dist cap, rotor and coil and you will see it. Two i believe 8 or 7 mm bolts on the outside hold it on.

well....me and my dad tested the coil with a ohmmeter, cause he's an eletrician and the book said that the resistance should be between .03 and .05 and the resistance tested .08....we dont know if that's bad or good, so we're gonna run 2 the local junkyard, theres a few sedans there and get the dist. from one..so u guys dont think it's the ignition? thanks 4 tha help, hopefully that'll be it...

well thanks 4 all the help guys...after 150$ and about 8 hours a'work we got tha car fixed...we went 2 the junkyard, and tore apart a distributor from a HB and got the coil and ignitor, only payed 60$ for that, which was ok, put it in the car, and it still didn't start, and it turned out it was the ignition switch itself, so we just went to a local parts store and got a new one, and it runs fine now...but tommorow im going to see a guy about maybe gettin a Eletric Blue hatchback, sry no pics, but hopefully i'll be able to get it cause it's pretty tight! i'm stoked about it, sry sedan guys...i might be switchin sides of tha family!
