I think I may have heard of this, but just in case, I'm getting a feeling that I'm mistaken.

Honda never made a Prelude Type R. There were other labels, such as Type S and Type SH, but never "R."

That badge is a fabrication.

... There was a sweeeeettt turbo prelude at Carlisle with $14,000 in mods and it had a Prelude Type R emblem on the back. I wanted to smack him. I said, "You know Honda never made a Prelude Type R, right?" Then he gave me a speech saying, "Type R, to me, is anything that's custom and Honda... blah blah blah" Totally fucked up a nice car.

People used to do that with "SS" Chevys back in the 60's. Badge engineering. " It must be true cause I read it on his fender!" I saw a 5th Gen with "Type SH" sticker in back and Type SH rims in the parking lot the other day. It also had a 3rd brake light and black rockers (white car).

Yeah... WTF?

"Type R" is, in fact (i.e. not opinion), a brand Honda uses to market its cars. Honda uses their particular parts to make a complete package. If you take a Civic DX and load it up with all the Civic Type R parts, you get...

A custom Civic. No more, no less. The VIN will always show it's a DX, but hopefully, if the car's built up correctly, it has become more than its trim level. What's wrong with just calling it a "custom car?" Why pretend to be some specific product that it's not?

"Type R" is, in fact, a trim level. It is *odd* to borrow a trim level name from one model and use it on another, just because it has a cool reputation or the badge is neat. You could put an NSX Type T "Type T" logo on a del Sol... (the "T" stands for "Targa", which is accurate)... but that doesn't mean that the del Sol is now a "del Sol Type T."

On the other hand, it's just a dumb badge, and it pops right off with one swipe of a screwdriver... Why sweat it?

I also saw a purple dodge shadow the other day with the shadow emblem blacked out with black spray paint (they didnt bother to tape off around the emblem so there was a big black spot around the emblem) with an accord badge under the shadow badge.

i dunno why so many ppl wanna have a "Type R"

i drove my buddy's ITR, an yea, it was sweet an got some attention, but its not something i'd try to immulate. yes, great motors, even better suspension, but its not jus a normal car I'D want to be driving around daily.

don't get me wrong, i love the Type R cars, but i jus think that they're really gettin over-hyped an i don't see why ppl w/ such a nice lude (the turbo one mentioned) would want to make it look like a ricer...

sigh...don't mind me, jus blowing off some steam...its jus like the question "why the hell do u want a wing that is taller then most of the asian population..."

The other day I saw a Mercedes M Class SUV with an SiR Tag on it. No offense to me or any honda addict, but if I can afford a $50K SUV, that is the last thing in the world I would put on it. I would be 6 feet under for years before it would happen. Everyone wants to be the star of their own private FAST and the FURIOUS

I hate it
