Pocher 1/8 Rolls Royce

Any Pocher classic (Rolls', Fiat, 540 Benz, Alfas) builders here? I have the Sedanca in progress but don't see any posted here or any dialog about them.

I've now completed the chassis (an earlier pic here) and have many Model Motorcars parts on board.

Have one wheel done and now building the other four.
Any advice gladly accepted.

i did have the sedanca coupe,but it was missing lots of parts,so i sold it,but i have the 1907 fiat kit

Build it! It's one of their best because of its relative simplicity. Makes a beautiful finished model.

I'm on page 4 of your superb WIP and I find all of your observations and experiences match mine. It is lucid and beautifully written-a textbook on the subject. I hope my WIP turns out half as nice.

Your choices and tenacity to get it right are great to see. I too am striving out of my comfort zone. I chose a slightly different path. I have many Model Motorcars aftermarket parts and tools. Very expensive but not one disappointment. I bought everything that can be seen and omitted those that can't. I did not build the brakes nor will I build the engine innards. I gutted the steering box so the wheels are posable but not operable from the wheel. All the mechanical stuff on Pochers is too fragile to operate as you state.

One great tool is the MMC aluminum work stands. They allow you to work upside down as well as right side up. Very helpful so as not to hurt the steering column, shift / brake levers and grille.



I also opted for the bronze front axle for strength and detail and their bronze clevises and linkage arms for steering and brakes. The brake arms in the front axle eliminate the problem you had because they are threaded-no nuts to install in that tight space.


I have completed the first wheel and mounted a MMC tire, which is a work of art. Seen here in mock-up for fitment purposes:


Also a prominent asset is the MMC PE leaf spring set. They are stainless steel and come with correct bronze shackles and 00-90 nuts:


I have chosen a curious path, not concours and not a weathered hulk. I am leaving the natural metal parts unfinished but a light coat of 'smoke' on the bronze. I have a weathered (used) exhaust, but will have the best paint I can shoot. Sort of an older restoration that gets driven in season and stored the rest. Since the aftermarket parts are like jewelery, I chose to leave them exposed. I hope the whole effect tuns out to be a hand-crafted piece of art, more so than a 'car model':

Thanks Roy. I'm up to page nine of your build and love it. A really nice part of it is the support you received from your fellow UK modelers. They gave you many great suggestions to solve the various problems. Again, your observations match mine almost exactly.
You made me very nervous, using chairs and cushions to work on the lower parts with much of the upper assembled!
The aluminum stands from MMC shown above allow the car to be flipped and work conveniently and securely. Pricey but well worth.
You can even fab your own from ally or plexi.

But the Pocher Alfa keeps peeping at me out of my stash.......
It might see the light of day soon.

Yes I'm enjoying that C-Type also.
Marvin Meit of MMC has told me some interesting things about the Spyder.
For instance, when they build one for a customer, they only use one spare and never use the 'finned fairing' over the spare. It's totally inaccurate and 1:1's never had them.
Also issues with the engine location, seats (MMC cuts them away from the rear bulkhead for better upholstery) and louvers on the cowl sides. The original Alfa 'blood red' is a challenge to get right but it's out there. Easier to find than the Saffron you tracked down.
By all means, get Koo's CD or call Marvin. Buying the PE springs and bronze axle is not a bad idea-I'm glad I did.
