Wth?? Poogs..

I just bought my first full size GM truck, an 84 1500 305 4barrel. Not a dent or spot of rust. Was billed as good running & dependable. When it first starts it takes a few pumps of the gas pedal, but then runs smooth and strong. It has 147000 miles.
So after it runs 10-15 miles it starts the POOGS (phantom out of gas syndrome) Preveous owner replaced; starter, alternator, battery, feul pump, valve cover gaskets, and had carb rebuilt.
I replaced the valve cover gaskests again, new oil/filter, and all the rubber feul lines with better clamps, new feul filter even though it still looked new.
I can keep it running by barely patting gas pedal if I give it too much it just stalles. After I sis a minute, it starts right up, will rev, but after a 1/4 mile starts again. PO said he pulled the tank and it was clean as could be. Im about to take it back for a refund, or at least partial, and replace the carb. I'm convinced his mechanic was shade tree and didnt really touch the carb. When I do a quickie kit install, I at least use a can of cleaner and spray out everything and clean the outside best I can. this carb is just dirty looking.
