Notice to anyone who took the "restrictor Plate" off DX or STD
That little plate in the intake plenum is there for a reason. Sure you take off the the DPFI top and you see it there and it looks restrictive but it's there to create a whirlwind effect with the air, it's kine like that tornado thing that they advertise on tv all the time. If you took it ou you'll probably notice that you're car is making alot more carbon and soot, this is because your engine's running rich as hell. I have a DTM tip so the soot was coming up on my back window, I put the plate back in and voila no more soot, and no more rich smell. I suggest putting it back in, you didn't gain any hp by taking it out and you're not going to lose any by putting it back in, you'll just have a better air fuel mix which means longer lasting engine for you.

I agree ....after i took mine out i noticed that the car was a lil harder to start sometimes because it would flood out a little and it seemed to run a little bit rich, like you said. I then put it back in and the car started fine everytime.

Mine was gone when I bought my car. I'll be swapping a Z6 sometime this summer so I won't have to worry about it much longer.

Hmm. Don't have that problem. How did you come about to this conclusion.
That plate is their for two reasons. Fuel economy and emissions. Limit airflow and the emissions will drop and the fuel economy will go up. I think i will keep mine out.

ive driven three DPFI cars, all of them without that plate. and while the shape of the plate does look like it helps create a venturi effect, ive ran the cars on wideband O2 machines and noticed that there is absolutely no difference in the A/F ratio on the car. this is mainly because the MAP sensor knows how much pressure is in the intake manifold, and the ECU sends fuel accordingly. not to mention that if it did start to rich out, the O2 sensor would pick that up and then the ECU would adjust accordingly.
point blank, none of my cars with the DPFI ever ran rich, never had soot or carbon or smoke of any kind coming out of the tailpipe (cept when i punched my cat on one as an experiment). you either have a lazy O2 sensor, a bad cat, a stuck open injector, or a lazy MAP sensor. on another note, i didnt really notice any gains in performance on the cars either, but i know that i can go from my house to LSU campus (90 miles) and back home almost 3 times on a tank of gas. i have to fill up on the way back home on the last trip.

I dunno, mine's been out for my past two tanks of gas and i've averaged about 40 MPG in mostly city driving (yeah, crazy). It hasn't been putting out noticably more soot and it doesn't start any worse. The throttle response seems slightly better with it out.

I took it out of my brothers civic almost a year ago, and have experienced no problems to date... still gets good milage, and there's no extra carbon on the exhaust tip either.

You have bigger issues than a stupid plate if you only have 2 fuel injectors. DPFI
