ford f 350

i posted about the f 350 cam lob and lifter wearing on the ford 460 ci engine
can anyone tell me what all the causes might be. we used the cam lube but got a ticking within the first 10 min of running.

Re: ford f 350

After break-in oil, you need the timing light monitoring your timing the first ten minutes. Before first startup, pull plug number one and verify that DTC there matches your timing marks. A lot of engines are recommended at 8 degrees btc, but look yours up to see what it should be when running. If your timing is too far off, the valves will start touching the pistons and putting pressure back through the valve train that can also cause a virgin cam to wear out early before it has broke in and been seasoned by the zinc in the break-in oil.
