GTP Intake job
Hey guys. I have a 1998 GTP two-door with 81K miles. I have been getting a code for bank one being too lean. It comes and goes. Also, when I get out of the car in the driveway it often smells like someone set off a bunch of fire crackers. I started looking around under the hood for possible vacuum leaks and I noticed that there appears to be coolant pooling in the area between the intake and valve covers on both sides of the engine. I say this means I need to do an intake job. I was just wondering what other people thought and also, the gasket kit from Felpro includes a tube of sealant of some sort. I know you are supposed to put it on some bolt threads, but is there anywhere on the block I need to apply it to? Also if you can think of any gotchyas or blunders I should try to avoid, I'd appreciate you mentioning them. I've done this job on a 3.1 twice and 3.4 twice. Thanks.

Kind of a misnamed code, since the engine only has one pre O2 sensor, it is reading lean for both banks.... I assume this is a SC'd engine? There is a thin paper gasket between the SC'er lower body and the top of the lower intake manifold....have seen them crack....Observing O2 data, while spraying around that gasket, usually will show a definite change in data.....you can go the extra mile and do the lower intake gaskets if you want to..... |
