'98 7.4 fuel injector replacements

1998 Sub K2500 7.4
178,000 miles

Going to replace the fuel injectors due to decreasing MPG and warm hard starts (puddling).

What would you guys recommend?

AC-Delco at $120 each. ($960)
Delphi at $72 each. ($576)
Lucas at $45 each. ($360)

All of the above are new not rebuilt.

you try the fuel rail injector cleaner and after that send the injectors out to be cleaned and install new seals. cheaper ... 180,000 on injectors should not be that damaged. most likely carbon or old fuel deposits.

could be hard warm start is the ECT provided that the fuel pressure holds on key on engine off... pressure drop can also be the regulator leaking into the intake ...

Re: '98 7.4 fuel injector replacements

This "warm hard start" seems to be a common issue with the OEM injectors on the 7.4's. The ECT is new. NO help. The rail and injectors were cleaned at a local shop using the proper tools and cleaner ( I watched). NO help. Fuel pressure is good and may drop 1-2 psi in 30 mins (a symptom of leaking injectors and "puddling").

I'm am going to replace the injectors.. I will not do rebuilds!!

So, once again, all I'm asking for are recommendations on the 3 injectors I listed.

if the injectors passed the fuel pressure testing It would be interesting that the injectors are the issue with the hard starting. leaking injectors would cause the fuel pressure to drop to ZERO in 15 min.. droping 1-2 psi in 30 min is good..
