Exclamation What in the world is this paint problem?

OK, I just bought a new Silver Accord, and there was a paint flaw -- a very small amount of a tar like substance beneath the front passenger door paint. No big deal -- the dealer got the substance out, but......

When I looked at the passenger door up close, everything looked fine. However, at a distance further away, there appeared to be a "glare" where the repair was. This "glare" was most apparent on overcast days when viewing the car from further away. Imagine this: you're walking toward your car at 100 feet away, and you see a glare on your door. You hardly register it, because one frequently sees glare on a car. But wait a second, the sun is shining on the OTHER side of your car, so how can there be glare??? As you get closer and closer to the car, the glare becomes impossible to see, and a close inspection of the paint shows uniformity.

The dealer sees what I'm talking about, but TWICE has been unable to solve the problem. It seems the problem is in the overcoat, but what exactly is the fix? Thanks for your help.

sounds like they messed up the paint with harsh chemicals. tell them to send it out to get whatever is messed up repainted. Bitch enough, they will do it & even give you a free loaner/rental.

Polishing won't do a thing if the paint is already damaged from a chemical.

If the car is brand new & still under warrnaty make them repaint it, they fucked it up, didnt they?

Was it repainted? Ask them what chemicals they used. I know that I just got a repainted trunk due to vandalism and the trunk was shiny when compared to the rest of the car for a while...it seemed to fade in after some time.

Then again you might have found the latest trend. What about a glaring skull or some other crazy design on the hood of your car. Nobody would see it up close but from a distance it would look sweet.
