On this day -

I've been mulling over this for a while, and a post by the lead Mclaren F1 technician at M.S.O Pani Tsouris over on Instagram re-ignited my thoughts.....

Let's have a timeline of what happened on what date with regards to the Mclaren F1, be it in development, construction, racing, speed records etc and if possible add a picture or 2 of that event on the anniversary of that event?

I'll start -

On this day 16 years ago, March 31st 1998, Andy Wallace piloted XP5 around VW's Ehra Lessien test track and reached an indicated 240.14 mph clicking through 47,849 miles on the odometer - still the highest top speed for a normally-aspirated production road car

Re: On this day -

The difference in the numbers was based on the speed recorded by McLaren's own on-board sensor and the speed that VW's track engineers were willing to certify based on their own measurements.

OK, perhaps the Vw's radar were a bit earlier located and did not catched the 391 which is to me the max F1's topspeed.

Re: On this day -

It's crazy to think that 16 years later... it still has the highest top speed of an N/A production car...

Probably always will be as the future is headed toward hybrid and/or forced induction alone for energy savings.

Yeah I was thinking that too... it's fitting that the McLaren F1 will keep this record

Re: On this day -

So far we have -

31.03.1998 - XP5 World Record run of 240.14mph
01.04.1934 - Paul Rosche's Birthday

If others can add their contributions below I can edit the original post to reflect all the info gathered, just like on the video thread
