Talking 98 Regal pan gasket 3800

Mine is starting to leak. Watched a couple vids, they lifted the motor passenger side with a hoist and removed the bracket and mount, dogbones etc. That bracket had two bolts on one side and three on the other. Has anyone used this method. They didnt unhook the exhaust or lower the frame either. Suggestions ?

Re: 98 Regal pan gasket 3800

There is always more than one way to do a job.....

To remove an oil pan on a 3800 on a LeSabre or PA is a piece of cake....Same engine on a Regal is a nightmare because of the bracket and mount on the passenger side......

So your option is to lift the engine to separate the mount from the bracket and cradle, or you use a board and chain to keep the engine from dropping, while you lower the cradle.....this would mean, you have to jack the vehicle up high to have room to lower the cradle and then get under there to remove the oil pan bolts....as for those 5 bolts in the bracket, they are not easily accessible.....

one more thing about that pan......there was a TSB out there about the "ripple" on the surface of the pan......so they recommend, that you run a bead of RTV on the entire surface of the pan, before bringing it up to the gasket, to prevent it from leaking....
