Question Checking Brake Runout

I purchased new rotors for a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. When I place the rotor on the wheel hub to check the runout, the rotor slides off. The lock nuts don't screw down far enough to press on the rotor. How do you secure the rotor to check runout ?

Re: Checking Brake Runout

Use some large washers to fill the space where the stud isn't threaded or you can use larger nuts as washers. Tighten in a star pattern like you would when putting on the wheel.

Re: Checking Brake Runout

Brake rotor and hub runout can cause vibration issues and pedal pulsation. It is very easy to check. Ideally you want .001" or less at the edge of the rotor and at the hub, but some cars may tolerate more. Always consult the applicable service manual to get the specs for your vehicle.
