DIY? power slide door cable broke.

2000 windstar. The cable broke on the left side power sliding door. It was the side of the cable that pulls the door closed if that matters. Anyway I am wondering is this a DIY type job? Is the cable a dealer only part? Are there any general instructions available online? I looked at the public library and they only had Chilton windstar manual for up to 98. I don't know if PSD was an option, but the only instructions they had for the side door was complete removal of the door.

I just spent my monthly allowance at the dealer so would rather fix on the cheap if possible.

Re: DIY? power slide door cable broke.

Looking at AllData, the job doesn't appear to be too bad. The labor scale they give (which I don't know how accurate it is) is a skill rating of "B" and time of 1 hour. The million dollar question is, can you remove the cable from the motor and just re-install a new cable. The directions are only for removing the whole actuator motor, cables and all. Look around and see if you can find the part (junkyard maybe?) and I can get the directions to you if you decide you want to do it yourself.
