240SX to Silvia conversion

I've been looking into purchasing a 95+ 240 and going for the JDM S15 swap.. Mainly because of the 6 speed tranny. Anyhow, can you convert the JDM style s15 headlights to 95 and 96 240's?? I noticed the headlights on 97 240's looked alot like the JDM ones, and making sure the headlight conversion isn't restricted to just that year.

Also, what is the stock boost on an JDM S15 engine? and what can the engine and turbo handle?

Oh yeah, does "s15, s14" etc stand for the engine model or the car? I assume the car, but I can't figure out if stands for the japanese production, the US production, or both. Thanks

Matt

i completely fail to understand WHY you'd want to put S15 headlights on an S14. the S14 was sold in Japan AS IT WAS SOLD OVER HERE! the only difference was the engine, the badges, and the interior. the body was exactly the same. so if you want a "JDM" S14, make a "JDM" S14. i personally think S15 headlights on an S14 look like crap.

as for the S15 engine, YOU DO NOT WANT THE 6-SPEED! as i just typed in another thread earlier today, the 6-speed is the same bell-housing as the S15 5-speed, but with an extra gear crammed in there. that means the gears are thinner in order to fit that extra one, and therefore weaker. they break more often. a 5-speed is plenty good, when are you ever going to use a 6th gear anyways?

and S15, S14 etc. is the chassis code. it's used to tell one generation of the same car from a different generation.

something tells me you got all these ideas from a certain Mr.Chu's car...

I didn't get the ideas from any one persons car. I happen to like the S15 headlights.. I'm not trying to do an exact conversion. As for the 6 speed, if what you say is true, I'll stick with the 5 speed. When would I use 6th gear? who knows, but if it's there, I'll use it.

To answer your question about the s15 headlights, you would need to do a complete s15 front end conversion (ie:fenders, bumper, lights, hood) which if you bargain shop will run you almost $2,000 for parts alone, not including and molding or paint needed. Hope that helps. Oh, and I don't think it looks that bad, but I'm in love the the s15 so that's probably why.

dude what about a s13 front end conversion on a s14 or s15...or better yet...a half and half conversion like....s14 with a left side s13 light and on the right have a s15 head light...that would be sweet!

Just a quick statement from someone that has a 6 speed. The 6th gear is essentially the same as the 5th gear on five speeds. The extra gears help to keep you in the power band better (which is especially important on a car like mine [Celica GT-S]). So its not like they just slap on another gear, they use the extra to better spread the gearing.

yes, but that's a Celica. they probably use a different bell-housing for the transmission so that their 6-speed actually benefits. not that i dislike the S15 6-speed, but it's in the exact same bell-housing as the 5-speed, so the gears are thinner in order to fit the extra one in there, and because of this they tend to break easier, especially when your car has more power then stock.

and TheLogikal1 - i happen to like that car.

Oh I have no doubt that the trimming the gears to make them fit into the same housing is a bad idea. I was just responding to your statement as to why you would want a 6th gear.

Re: 240SX to Silvia conversion

i don't know why you would do that conversion when it seem easier to have a 1998 and up 240sx that already have them head light so called, Sharkeyes. and it is about $2,000 to buy the kit it takes new hood, fenders and so -on. i can understand though, If you wanted it for an S13 becuse it has the flip lights. also different body shapes just to make it look like a newer model car. Pesonal I think you should go with the 5gears because it is lighter and they so much lower percentage of breaking on you when you drag raceing.
