In Need of Help!

I am in need of some help from everyone that can! I currently drive a 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer but am getting ready to sell. I would love to get a car that I can work on, maybe even a project car, basically something that I put in some hard work, and be proud to call it mine and know I put in the work to make it what it is. Not to mention, I would love something that could be AWD with better gas mileage than what I already have (should not be hard anyways). I'd love to keep it below $25k it it's a newer one, but am open to used options as well. What opinions do you all have for me?

Re: In Need of Help!

I was thinking Subaru at first. The only problem with getting an Audi is that I'm only 20, going on 21, and the insurance on owning the Audi would be absolutely insane.

Re: In Need of Help!

a newer ford Taurus sho with all wheel drive can be had for around 20k but the insurance would still get you along with the fuel mileage and twin turbos

The Subaru would be a good choice. The STIs are expensive to insure, but the WRXs are somewhat reasonable and - to my way of thinking - are really better road cars. They're also pretty competitive in their autocross classes, if you want to try that.

Subarus aren't the easiest cars to work on, but most service can be done DIY if you buy a good manual and take your time. You may have to buy a few specialized tools, but most repairs/mods can be accomplished with normal hand tools. There are also several really good forums on the 'net for Subarus with members who post 'how-to' videos and can answer almost any tech question. Another good thing about Subies is that there are tons of performance parts readily available at reasonable prices.

Re: In Need of Help!

a used golf r32 might be a reasonable awd choice. although it gets 17 mpg in the city and 24 on the freeway according to fueleconomy.gov
