I was wondering what the boost was on the US version of the wrx? also how much more boost could I run before I start hurting things?

The wrx's are running 13 psi stock. Im guessin' u could probably run 16 before really hurting anything.

The answer will depend on the method of raising boost.
If you plan to use a simple bleed valve type device (i.e. no adjustments to fuel and ignition maps) I would not recommend any more than +2PSI. A custom ECU tune has the potential to gain power without increasing boost. If "dialing up boost" as well, it will be safer as well as being more effective per PSI of increase. Talk to your local tuner.

The best but more expensive way to up your boost would be this. After making sure your fuel delivery system can handle it, install a boost controler and turn it up to your desired level, then reset your ECU so it can get the timing right.
Also, are you sure that stock rexys run 13 psi boost? 'Cause the turbos are small (compared to like a GTR) and stock GTRs run 8 or 9 psi. I've heard like .5bar (or 7psi) for stock WRX.

The size of the turbo matters somewhat less than the design of the engine internals...
Subarus tend to have rather low compression ratios (8:1) so can take heaps of boost pressure... 17PSI is not uncommon on stock internals. But with the standard turbo that much boost will definitely be outside its efficiency range - net airflow and intake temperature will suffer. That's where the damage usually comes in (overheated intake charge causing detonation) |

Cheapest way of getting bigger boost without things blowing up is to fit a BIG front mount intercooler.

Yeah, I'm sure they run 13psi because for a while i was interested in buying one and went to the dealership and did a lot of research, then i found a syclone and bought that! LOL!

WRXs run 12-13 psi maximum in standard trim but will not hit that max often unless colder weather. You can safely increase that to 15psi befor ethings start going BANG. But there are better solutions that will ensure longevity.

The stock boost level is 14.3 psi, and that small TD04 Mitsucrapi turbo will not be good for more then 16 psi of boost. I know someone ran 17psi on it and it was burned out during a short brief WOT run, and that turbo didn't look and smell good after that. Mostly the bearing seals that weakens due to temperature and load.
The EJ will run 17psi just fine like their Japanese counterpart non-STi models, but they also use a larger turbo.
