Hello all, I have read many threads here but this is my first post.
I bought a 1995 240sx se today, the engine is blown (lady ran it out of oil) but I got the whole car for $200. I am looking for some basic help. First off, is a 95 an s14? I think it is, but not sure. And second, does anyone have a good affordable source for s-14 front clips? I am new to sr20det swaps, I have been messing with DSM's perviously. From what I have read, if i get a good clip, it will include engine, transmission, and ECU. The swap seams fairly strait forward, and for the most part, appears to be a drop in. I have a front mount intercooler already, and enough manderals to do the plumbing, but I am unclear as to what the turbo upgrade path is. Any good sources for headers/turbos? Any good swap guides on the internet? Sorry for being such a n00b, but I'm ready to get this thing rolling.

Welcome to the S14 Nation. Good ass deal on that car, is it in good condition? 5-speed I hope, Keep reading, and you will have no trouble finding out the "Do's"... and "DONT's" with your car.

first of all, welcome!
yes the 95 is an S14... 89-94 S13, 95-98 S14 just so you know I'm not an expert on the SR but I can tell you that a black-top SR is from what I know an exact fit for an S14 but if you go to www.heavythrottle.com you can find full clips, they are one of the best sources for engines that I've seen good luck! |

yes it is a 5 speed, and thogh the engine is shot, the car is in good shape. body is clean and never wrecked. The interior is in beatifull condition, minus the stereo, which i removed for the lady i bought the car from.
She sure could clean the hell out of her car, but she never changed the oil, and ignored the oil light for 3k miles

IF your looking for a sr20det for your car go to cartune motorsports. thats where i got my car and engine.

welcome, and i'm very jealous of the deal you scored on that car! wish i could find one like that.
for most info, have a read of our FAQ and hit some of the links. there's alot of info in there concerning engine swaps, and alot of links leading to places in the US that do the swaps, along with info and guides. the engine that's easiest to drop into an S14 is obviousley the S14 SR20. it was made for this chassis. the S13 engines go in almost as easy, and are a bit cheaper, so if you opt for that, it's not much more effort.

ONLY 200? Man! I wish i knew that lady! Thats such a good deal! Instead i had to buy my 240 for 5000! man if i got it for 200 i couldve done an engine swap and still have money! NOw i gotta save up for an SR so i can start drifting! Well the KA isnt all that bad! BUt hey im talkin about more power!

Well the car has problems, the AC is shot, the engine is blow, the sturts are blown, the brake pads are worn to the metal, and the rotors are shot. I took apart the rear diff tonight, and it is in very good shape. The Interior is spotless, the paint is ok, but is oxidizing. all the electrics apear to work, the tires are bald, but the wheels are perfect. The headlights are badly yellowed, but the front spoiler is in good shape, few scuffs.
I paid $200 and towed it off. Title is clear, and I will have it transfered on Friday at the DMV. The Engine is now out of the car, I will have the tranny out tommorow. I will clean everything in the bay up while the engine is out. I noticed that the master cyilder appears to be leaking slightly, so I will have to rebuild that as well. I have removed the hood, front bumber, grills, headlights, front and rear brakes, struts, springs, and driveshaft. I will strip out the interior for cleaning this weekend. In Two weeks the build up beggings. My plans at this point are: Stage 1 S-14 SR20DET + tranny My FMIC (Used Starion core, with new endtanks) Water sprayer ( I have the pump and nozzles already, will use some factory nissan switch) Greddy E01 boost controller Some sort of intake (not sure yet) Downpipe/exhaust For sturts/springs I am looking for advise, but I will likely take the lowest cost approch at this point For brakes, I am looking at re-useing stock calipers, just useing cheap rotors, and EBC Green stuff pads. some Kumho supra 711's on stock wheels Stage 2 Bigger turbo (advice?) Greddy E-manage engine managment wide band o2 new seats/harness maybe a stereo. Tell me what you think? Keep in mind I am not going for show at all here, just a super clean daily driver that i can take to the track on weekends, maybe autocross a bit, drift at will, and embarress the civics. Ron |
