Sorry to have to "come in" with another of these Quite ordinary questions but.........last night i sprayed my Celica with Gunze topcoat about 4-5 times and the things full of orange peel now, shame beacause it was a great paint job. Just wondered if this is normal beacause i was expecting it to be all smooth & shiny as though it had been dipped in oil or something. The actual top coat rattle can is empty now so i thought id continue over the car with Clear (future) floor polish till i get rid of the orange peel as i have no desire whatsoever to sand it all since the paint job was so good, what do you guys reckon ?!?

Depending on the severity of the orange peel, clearcoating might hide it, or it could magnify it. Is it comparable to an eggshell, orange peel, or golf ball(
)?

Oh, it's not that bad.......you can only see it at an angle & in the light.
More like eggshell. Thanks for replying. |

Clearcoat will be fine then. Future is self-leveling so it should give a nice even shine. Just beware that future doesn't polish well, or so I hear.

I use Gunze Mr. Top Coat B501 which is the water based spray acrylic, I goes on very smooth and seldom shows any orange peel. I also have some of their enamel based top coat but haven't used it except for a test spray, seems to dry very slowly.
Best thing to do is to learn how to polish, that way any orange peel can be removed.

Thanks for the answers.
Looks like it's gonna need a bit of sanding, if i bought a new tin of the same Gunze top coat and threw on a few more layers the orange peel should dissapear in the end should it not !!! I mean it must work the same as when painting with a rattle can.................3-4 light coats then a nice top coat or two to get rid of the orange peel ! Later, Mike |
