ECU chips
For all who have put in ECU chips, do you have to have a different engine in your car to do so, or can I put in a mugen chip to increase horsepower 15-20 on my d15b2? I know I will need some serious other engine internals, however, I wanted to know if it would actually work/make any sort of a difference. Thanks in advance...

its really not worth modding and doing internal work on your d15b2 ... if you dont wanna spend mega bucks on a swap go for a d16z6 and then either go all motor on that or turbo it.

Thanks melt, I appreciate that feedback, in spite of my absent-mindedness sometimes, and I value your opinions. I will just save my 20 and put it towards my b16

Actually any big name chips can make you lose hp. IT really depends on the tuning and the set up. |

I wouldnt worry about losing hp, I'd be worried that the people who make them dont know what they are doing....Those ecu's and "chips" can be very dangerous.
If you're talking about one of those amazing $20/20hp ebay miracle chips, then dont even bother. You might as well just run your car without oil, because that might be safer. Anyone can fool with timing, fuel curves, and rev/speed limiters. All you need is a laptop and the proper software. Those people are bigger scam artist than the ones who sell the electric turbos. If your going to do an ecu, do it last when your motor is tuned. Then take your car to someone who knows about proper ecu tuning, and have them hook you up with a good hondata program that fits your needs. Otherwise, save your money. Most times, if it seems to good to be true...it probably is....Unless it's a Swedish cold air intake.

Like i mentioned earlier. No matter what ecu chip you gonna get from mugen, spoon, skunk2 all them big name companies...you will lose hp without proper tuning and u'll probably lose some if u just throw in a chip ecu in. My friend got his gsr powered civic tuned. He put out 167 to the wheels and 113 lousy pounds of torque.with dc sports header, type r aem cold air, bbk 70 mm tb, and rsr cat back with skunk2 chip. I'm pretty sure the ecu had something to do with it and the big ass tb he put on haha.
