300zx, can he beat me?
There's a car that i want to race, it's a 300zx. It's pretty much riced out, has big wing on back, with dual coffee can mufflers out-back very loud. Anyways based on my mods, i should beable to beat him right?

Depends what he's got, if he's running a built turbo setup, probably not. What's he got?

That depends on what model 300ZX he is. Is it the twin turbo model or no turbo model? If it's the TT, then get ready, cuz it's gonna be a close one, but I think he would win in the end. If not, then it's a peice of cake.

But then again, the 300ZX have been plagued with lack of power...

I think you will take him even if he is TT, with your combo you should be in the 13s.

stock tt or modded n/a should be able to beat you pretty handily with a decent driver....

a stock 302 of that year was good for roughly the same amount of power as the n/a vg30de, where the 302 might have a torque advtage but the vg had higher hp figures....the fox body stang was a bit lightr though so stock for stock a fox and a n/a z are about on the same level with similiar drivers, now for the ttz, basic mods put this car over 400 horse at the crank (intake exhuast chip) which is out of reach for a 302 without some f/i....a similiarly modded n/a z with a good driver would be more then competitive and a lightly modded turbo would walk on any n/a 302

Actually, a really good driver will put the fox 5.0 into the low 14s bone stock. Gears, really good driving, and a cold air kit could have the fox tripping high 13's without too much of a problem.
For the record, a Fox 5.0 5spd will weigh in right about 350-500lbs lighter than the 300ZX TT, depending on the 300ZX options. In reality, the 300ZX also has a much less efficient drivetrain than the Mustang as well, with the IRS sucking up more engine power than the solid axle/T-5 combination. Racing cars with weight and hp spec's doesn't always yield the true outcome. In this race, the end result is likely to be determined by driving. If the 300ZX is bone stock, and the two cars were only running against each other, the Mustang would probably have a slight edge, but not a lot. Throw the drivers into the equation, and the age of the cars, how well they're tuned, etc and the outcome is completely unknown.

The modifications done to the car would do about the following to the hp.
Intake 10hp 65mm T/B 2hp CAI 8hp (removing the factory silencer is most of that) Headers 5hp H pipe 15hp mufflers 1hp (I'm being generous here) 250-260hp for the entire combo I would consider quite a reasonable expectation.
