door locks
On a 2000 GM when opening the door locks with a key is this a mechanical function or an electronic function?

You posted a GM question on a mercury link??? What model of vehicle is this? If you are using the key to manually open the door, it is mechanical. If your using a button on the key fob to unlock it is electro/mechanical.
