Seat texturing
Tried something out to add some texture to seats & I think it looks pretty good. I softened the plastic with liquid cement & then pressed wrinkled aluminum foil onto it. After it dried I sanded it lightly. Was also testing out different red paints here, but seat on right has texture added...

Re: Seat texturing
It's an interesting effect- it's cool to see the foil pattern embossed in the plastic like that. But I'm not quite sure I understand why there would be texturing like this on a seat. Usually upholstery fabric is wrapped tightly enough around the foam cushioning that it surrounds that it isn't able to wrinkle. Do you have any pics of 1/1 car seats that have this appearance?

Re: Seat texturing
I see it as perfect to replicate old leather seats in american cars, like 8 to 10 years old cars, somethings that been used...

Re: Seat texturing
Yes, that is what I intended, to give it some age & wrinkles, like it has been used.

Re: Seat texturing
If you're going for an aged look, I think you've got a good finish going, I would just add some distressing/weathering to it to complete the look.

Re: Seat texturing
Looks perfect for old leather. It immediately evoked an old BMW to me. Great effect, great idea!

Re: Seat texturing
Very cool!
Expanding on your idea Jas, I wonder if saran-wrap might work too (possibly less likely to accidently stick), and could be used to form stretched wrinkles from one seam or corners, like less worn seats show? Seats look good, bravo! |
