Factory Speakers and Mod Question

Hi there, I am definitely new to these Forums, and have 2 quick questions

What size is the factory default for my 1997 Buick Skylark Custom 4-Door. 5.25", 6.5"? I am looking to upgrade them, (since I will be having this car for awhile, and I;ve already added some underbody lighting to it, as well as some neon interior lighting.

My 2nd question is kind of a doozy. My car currently has the gear shift (automatic) on the Steering wheel, and well, when I had my 92 Skylark, it was a floor shifter. So I am wondering if anyone here knows where I might be able to get a kit to install a floor shifter into my car (if possible). Thanks!

Crutchfield says: Front 4x6's and Rear 6x9's. As for the shifter, I'm not the person to ask. Hope I could help some at least.

I would go with Visonik over Lightning Audio, but you might check into other brands also....XTant, Focal, MBQuart, Memphis (great if you ask me), or Diamond Audio also.

Ok, I found a particular set of Full Range speakers from Visonik that I likem and also, the Subs, so I was wondering what size amp should be the minimum I should get... The speakers are capable of 200w, and the subs are the Loaded Dual Band Pass @600W RMS.. Someone said I should run them in series instead of parallel. Could I get someone to say what I should do?

series or parallel doesn't really matter, it depends on how much power you wanna to push. in sereis you add resistence, but in parallel you divide resistence. For the speakers, you could probably use a 75x4 amp and that should be good. If the speakers are 200 RMS each, then bridge the amp into two channels. For the subs, you will want an amp that will at least push 1200 MAX @ 1-ohm. Also, you will probably want the amp to be able to handle a 1-ohm load. If you can find a class D mono amp, then wire each sub to 2-ohms (guessing the subs are Dual 4-ohm since most are) and then bridge them to 1-ohm. Any more questions ask.

Let's just say I want to push enough power to turn some heads. Could you recommend any 75x4, because I keep finding 50 x 4 Amps. And yea, the subs are 4 Ohms
Subs I am looking at getting

I am going for the 600w at the top that are like $177.99

And for the Amp, I've been looking at a few, especially the Sony Xplod XM-1600GSD 1200 Watt Amplifier

Also, I am trying to decide if I still want the 200, or just save a few $$$ and go with 140's.

My budget for this lil project is $700 for everything... 4 speakers, subs, and amp(s) and any other things i might need

Okay, whoa buddy. Those subs only handle 300 RMS each. The 600 RMS is for both of them together, so really all you need is a 600 watt max @ 1-ohm. As for the 75x4, I have Audiobahn and it's pretty good, but Audiobahn is on the more expensive side, but if you might check it out anyways. You could probably use a 100x4 without any problems. Can you give me a link for the speakers you have and I could tell you more about them. MTX has a 75x4 here http://www.audio-n-more.com/MTX/mtx.htm (third one down). For those subs, I would recommend this http://www.woofersetc.com/product.asp?3=131. You'll be pushing 250 watts through each sub. That should be plenty for those subs.

Sure, again they are visonik

http://www.thezeb.com/caraudio/visonik_speakers.html

I am looking to probably just get the CS Full Range Speakers and here are their specs

V412CS
4" x 6" 2-Way Full
Range Speaker
70W Rms
140W Max
Frequency Response
65 Hz - 20 kHz
Sensitivity 91dB
1W/1M

and for the rear
V692CS
6" x 9" 2-Way Full Range Speaker
130W Rms
260W Max
Frequency Response
600Hz - 20K Hz
Sensitivity 96dB
1W/1M

And I will probably go with that MTX 6500D amp, seems like a very good one, pushing 250 through each.. But in regards to the speakers themselves, to save money, could I just run them off the MP3 Player's power without an amp?

Better yet, get a 50x4 @ 4-ohms and run the front speakers regular and bridge the back speakers across the other two channels. You should be running 50 to your front speakers and 100 to your back that way. You can run the front ones off the mp3 player and they'll sound pretty good, but your back speakers won't have the crisp clean sound that you'll be looking for. You can run all of them off the mp3 player, but I would at least try to save up some money to get an amp, you'll be glad when you have one. Yeah, $700 is kinda hard to get a good head turning system out of these days. I paid $1500 for mine, but I got all my stuff, except installation wholesale. Regular it would have cost me about $3000.
