Buy Vtec or swap one in?
Im currently trying to decide whether or not its smarter to buy a dual cam del sol with 100k-120k miles on it, or to buy the D block model for 2 or 3k and swap in a b16. I can get the vtec model for around 4.5k, and from my research on engine costs i think im lookin at around 2k for the b16, but im not sure if everything ill need for the swap will come with it, or how much ill get charged for labor. Anyone help me out with this?

buy an S model and smack a b18 into the bitch. Why?
Well, mainly, you get S model insurance rates and VTEC power... also, the b18 is gonna be more powerful than the b16, and more power is better! |

get the b16 and save the 1000 or more that you pay for 10 hp, and if you wanna go turbo then the b16's gearing is more toward what you want neways. i have a b18 and i wouldve gone b16 if i hadn't gotten my b18 for 300 dollars more. IMO, b16 is a better deal, but hey its ur money, and for around 3000 not including labor you can put an h22 in ur sol, just something to think about. my friend did it for less than 3k, but we put it all in, and he paid nothing but a couple of value meals at micky D's in labor.

Im just wondering if i should get the cable and get the kit to make the change, or get the hydro...the hydro is going to run me almost 1300 more. This is the only part of the swap im not understanding completely i think

hydro is better... less glitches and less risk of things breaking... a much less complex machine.

go h22 you can get all of the parts you need for around 3000 plus labor, unless you'll be putting it in. i can hook you up w/ the guy that did my friends wire harness on his h22 swap.

Emily is right. You need a B18, however you should build your 16 head on the 18 block. The labor on the swap will cost you but it will be worth it.

I agree with Mase. The b16 and b18 heads are the same beast. Use the b16 top end, which you can find at any junkyard (doesn't have to be out of a sol.. can be a civic Si or you can use an acura integra, but that's a b18). You can also easily have the b18 bored out to 2.0 liters instead of 1.8. You'll kick yourself for getting an H22, because you lose a lot of manueverability (I've heard) due to the engine being heavier, and due to the fact that a lot of people remove their power steering when they put in an H22, because power steering eats up horses. If you're looking for a car that hauls ass in a straight line, then I would jump for the H22.. but for an all around good motor, that can be turboed to kill in the 1/4, but that is light and plays enough to do autocross, which is what the sol was practically bred to do, get the b18 bottom end (block), mate it to the b16 top end (head), throw a turbo in to make it an interesting little menage a trois, and have some SERIOUS fun.
