ran into a 300zx n/a 5 speed

well i picked my girl up from the port authority bus terminal on 42nd street manhattan. there was grid lock traffic too and from manhattan so my car was running really hot, the needle was almost touching the hot feather on the temp guage. anyhow we finaly get out of manhattan and i'm on this hill goin on the highway, then at the stop light, there is this spanish guy in a white 300zx 5 speed. ( i could tell cause he was lettin the car roll back on the hill) well he looked at my car and saw all my guages on the A pillar. well me must've thought that i was rice or something. so when we get on the highway, he just downshifts and goes. well then i downshifted from 60 to 3rd gear to catch up. lets just say that i only kept up becuase i had 2 people in the car along with my girl's lugauge in the trunk and my car was running really hot before. anyhow i only beat him in traffic, so its more of a skill win then a all out rape fest. oh wellz.

Are you okay? Is your car okay? Who's fault was it? How hard did you hit him?

how'd it compare to your n/a? if you were running a 15.5 before, what are you doing now?? you should have killed him. o well i guess it depends on the type of turbo you have.

couldnt you beat a 300zx n/a before your turbo??

as i was saying, i had 3 poeple in my car, along with lugauges, and my car was running really really hot from the stop go stop go traffic of manhattan on a hot day. as everyone knows, turbos hate the heat. plus since my car was running soo hot, i suspect that my knock sensor is retarting the ignition timing like crazy to prevent detonation at such high heat. so to be able to be toe to toe with a n/a Z under all those conditions is actually really good.

edit: mynismo if you havne't figured out that yet, that means that my car lost massive amount of horsepower from
1: heat (intercooler not being able to work at full effiency on a hot day cause of traffic )
2: massive retarded spark timing. ( from my temperature needle on the verge of H )
3: an extra 400lbs in my car

so it actually wans't bad for me to slowly gain on him under all those conditions.

ok i get ya...

why is it running so hot? you should line the whole inside of your engine with thermo tec stuff, that stuff is great. i just put wrap just on my header and the heat went away considerably. you're car should really never heat up that much... but who knows

that aint a bad kill at all.. gj man!

yes i have the header wrap too. but its not really external engine heat thats the problem its more of the coolant temp. as i was stuck in grid lock traffic, with the a/c on. the load from the a/c made my temp skyrocket. normally i just shut it off, and i drive around at moderate speed, and let the cooler air get rid of the heat from the radiator. but thats not the case this time beucase i was stuck in grid lock traffic. i had upgraded my acessory fan to a flexlite fan, and it still didn't do me any good. its the traffic i hate traffic!! grrrr

is there really any change from a stock catback system to just the muffler besides the louder noise?

i think i'll see a huge difference with a slanted apex n1 dual and random tech cat.

thats the set up that i'm running on right now. and i also got rid of my first CAT because my car is OBDII so i still have 1 cat left. basically the way the 240's exhuast is, is that it has a resonator in the mid section and there is the actual muffler. when you changed the muffler alone you still have one resonator holding back the power, and your exhuast if flowing over tiny ass 2 inch pipes that are crushed to make bends. the . the inlet of hte n1 duals is a full 3 inches. then it goes into the higher flowing resonator, then it splits into 2 seperate 2.5 inch pipes.

did you notice any major gain with the new cat and catback exhaust?

yea my first cat is in the garbage somewhere..... i cant wait for that n1, that slant look on a dual looks super cool. and that random tech cat is supposed to flow more air than a straight test pipe.

well since i went from a stock exhuast to a full cat back, and i had a intake on, yes i did feel a difference. the pulled alot harder from 3000 to 5500rpm. the car would jump at that speed, and the was more willin to rev.
