Ferrari California NART Coupe Concept

From it's humble beginnings in 2010 this project evolved from intending to be a special California with V12 and factory paint to a California NART Coupe concept. Originally the model was going to have a V12 but the more I looked at it the less impact the V12 really had because it's mostly hidden anyway. Add that to my ADD and project fatigue and ultimately the model ends up as a curbside.

If you explore the below WIP link you can see that I began with the Revell up top version and glued Ferrari 599 sail panels over the b pillars of the California's folding roof creating a hardtop. I molded those in with putty maintaining the rear windows stock position and stretching the sail panels further toward the rear essentially resulting in a semi tunnelback.The side windows were also reshaped in order to flow with the sculpting on the body sides.I tried to restyle the rear of the body in order to reach uniqueness and to hopefully improve what I viewed as a mess from Ferrari....but alas I don't think I improved anything. I took another set of side vents from a Cali kit and inserted them into like holes cut into the hood for heat extractors.

The paint scheme and NART theme was inspired by a Hamann Cali that I photoshopped. I used Zero Paints white for base color then Tamiya's TS15 blue airbrushed on for the accents. The NART decals are from a Q-Models sheet and all was cleared over with U-pol clear and polished. The steering wheel and nose Ferrari emblems are lacquered peel and stick type and metal transfers are from Crazy Modeler.

Interior was straight forward build using Acryl Aircraft Interior Black and Guards Red. Silver accents were made using a DecoColor liquid silver paint pen.

That about sums it up other than the Hobby Design Hamann wheels, 20" front and 21" rear.
