Motorcraft Ford Mustang GTO

Finished the Mustang today. This kit had problem after problem, fitment issues, crappy decals that were to thick. All of the red striping had to be masked off and painted because the decals just wouldn't conform to the bodies contours, even with micro sol/set. Should have expected all this from a 28 year old kit. I had to build it though. I have wanted this kit since I was a kid.

Re: Motorcraft Ford Mustang GTO

Hey sohchx that turned out great, beautiful racing pony. You did a great masking and decal job. Some decals just laugh at microsol but usually surrender to solvaset or Mr. mark softer, but my weapon of choice is gently heating them to place with a warm cotton swab or ball depending of decal size. Again, super nice clean build of a classic.

Thanks rick. Yeah I have been using your heat method ever since you mentioned it in your Jaacs Accord thread and it's been working great. I also finished my Accord by the way, lol. Came out great and thanks again for the tip. Softening the decals wasn't a problem at all for this kit, the problem was that the decals were made to thick and had a rubber like feel. These have to be the strongest decals that I have ever worked with and I assume it's due to the thickness. Strange thing is that some of the decals were thicker than others and looked like raised stickers on the surface, not waterslides.

Is it just me or have there been several very nice builds recently?

Hi

The decals were horrible even when the kits were new. Some really prehistoric bad decals. Glad to see that you persevered with the kit no matter what.

Re: Motorcraft Ford Mustang GTO

I built this model about 25 years ago (it didn't turn out like yours lol) and it's really cool to see it as it should be........."Awesome". Well done bro!
