how often do you change your oil?

I'm not new to Honda but I am new to owning a 4th gen 89 hatch. On the air box is recommends you change your oil every 7500miles or 12,000km's. I find that pretty unreasonable for a 14 year old car. When do you guys change your oil? I've been doing it every 5000km.

Who cares what car it is, do it every 3,000 miles... I'm sure it'd be ok 'till 5,000 but it can only help the engine to change it sooner.

My hatch has 184000 miles on it, so i like to change it about every 2 months or 2500 miles, but that is cause i do a lot of city driving, and i run the hell out of the old engine

Siz: you ever tried that fuel injection cleaner shit from Canadian Tire? It's fuckin great. I used it once and I'm already going 50km further on the first 1/2 tank.

I got a better system for ya....

Try a kit called the "RunRite Fuel System Cleaner"....

I have seen that kit do some amazing shit, especially when you have someone who knows how to do it right. It cleans everything from the intake to the tailpipe. It gets pressurized into your intake via an "I-V" like bottle, and makes its way through the entire combustion cycle. It usually takes about 2-3 hours, the longer the better. Costs about $80, and worth every damn penny... I plan on doing my Zc as soon as I put it back in my car.

And Synthetic oil is only good to use if you have a newer car, or a brand new engine. Otherwise, it will do more harm than good. Its good ol' 10w30 for me every 3000 miles or so.

Thumbs up

I used to change my d15 every 5000 miles with Mobil 1 - Now the engine has 212K on it, and it burns a quart about every 1000 miles...so I have been lazy, and just keep dumping a fresh quart in - lol - I try to remember to change the filter when I think about it, but damn it is hard after you have the freshy motor waiting to go in...you just don't take very good care of the old one.

The ZC will get fresh Mobil 1 every 2,500 miles, which is about 4,000 kilometers I think for you Canadians and foreigners - And that is mostly cuz it will be easy to remember on the odometer, and I think 5000 is a little too long now that I see how much oil my car burns with 212K miles.

Ya, I use it sometimes.. When I took my car to Candain Tire for emissions, they messed with the timing and flushed my injectors.. I'm getting about 50 to 75km more on a tank every time, for months now.. I love it.
