2002 Explorer Turn Signal

My left rear turn signal is out, the front works but blinks rapidly. The right sides work normal no rapid blink. New bulbs on left side did not fix problem. Could this be a flasher issue or is this an open circuit. Don't even know where to begin testing wires if this is the case. I hate electrical stuff so frustrating. Any help?

Try cleaning the contacts on the left side, front and back.

Re: 2002 Explorer Turn Signal

It won't be a flasher issue since the left and right sides use the same flasher. Are you sure the bulb is installed correctly? If so, your next step should be to use a test light to check for good voltage and ground at the bulb connector.

You might also want to try the 4-way flasher just to confirm the bulb still doesn't work with the 4-way on.

Re: 2002 Explorer Turn Signal

Does the left rear 4 way signal and brake light work? If not the lamp socket is shorted. Remove new bulb, check to see that it's the correct bulb, check contacts for corrosion. With all lights and signals off clean any corrosion being careful not to ruin the contacts spring tension, reinstall bulb. Wiggle bulb with signal on or remove and install it several times real fast like in a "filing" motion. If no go then check the socket for continuity. You'll need to back probe the wiring terminals on the socket and test from there to the bulb contacts.
If found shorted, replace the socket.(can be had in any auto parts store). You'll have to cut and reconnect wiring with "heat shrink" butt connectors. On the other hand if it starts to work it'll last awhile. Although I pinned a bulb in the lamp socket with a toothpick about 5 yrs ago on my pickup and it's still working! HTH
