Updating engine.

Hi everyone, I have a 2002 Explorer E.B. and wanted to know if i can update the 4.6 engine with something more hybrid or an engine where i can get hire mpg. ANY susgestion

Third generation (2001-2005) came with your 4.6L or the other option was the 4.0L, both V-6 engines. There is only a 2 mile per gallon difference in the rating between the two. Not a lot of improvement relative to the cost of the swap. You'd have to change the computer and who knows how many other items and sensors to get the other engine to work. Best option is to find another vehicle that will get the mileage you want.
