Exhaust

well, first of all, i'm new to the forum so i wanna get my name out there. secondly... i'm looking to put a new exhaust system on my car. i was looking at flowmasters the other day, but i'm not sure how good that's gonna sound as well as how much more performance it's gonna add to my car. so if anybody out there knows of anything please let me know. thanks.

it has a Y-Pipe right? if so flowmasters will sound like shit. I would get Dynomax Ultra flows and thats it. If you do go with a Flowmaster, then single chamber mufflers will do fine.

Well... if you really want Flowmasters, then you could split the manifold, then install an H-Pipe in place of the Y. Then install your Flowmasters. Sure, It'll be just a little louder....:hehehe:

You can't run an H-Pipe under a Bonneville anyway. If you could I'd have one under my GP.

Is an H-pipe make more noise than a X-pipe, or is it better?

Oops, sorry, I wasn't aware that you couldn't run an H-Pipe under a Bonneville. The H-Pipes are said to be better than X-Pipes, but I do not not have any first hand knowledge that they are. Also, it isn't the H-Pipe that would make the exhaust louder, but it is the split manifold.

A flowmaster can bolt right up and requires no mounting changes. More flow a little rumble. Personally I like the units sold by summit but I still love my flowmaster. I like the smaller pipes because the flowmaster actually robs torque from a stock engine. With a SC you’re ok though.

Also if you get some juice (Nos/ NX/T&T/Venom. Don’t do ZEX!) Then you are going to get the benefits from the flowmaster.

Oh on that note you can get CO2 Chillers too..

So what is the best sounding, easiest installation muffler for the Bonneville? Is it the Dynomax? Also, what is the suggested diameter of the pipes?(sorry if that has been answered before) I want to make sure that my '98 sounds the best that it can.

Flowmaster is louder and the dynomax gets louder as you put your foot in it. The summit racing system is not as loud but is "good".

Flowmaster will be the loudest. I always get looks.

Its just a Camaro unit put on a Bonneville so you can get an idea with a Camaro on the sound / tone you will get. Remember it’s just a 6 so it will not sound like an 8 no matter what you do with the exhaust.

Scott_02 claims his 98 Grand Prix GTP sounds like a V8. I don't know him personally, so I do not know what his car sounds like. Are there any other upgrades that you know of from personal experience that enhance the sound? Also, do you know if you can fit an H-Pipe under a Bonneville? Just curious, because I heard that they were the best sounding type of pipes that you can put under any car.

That is my car and if you type

"Timon" or "Ty" and "Bonneville" on Google you will find all sorts of my postings and info.

Yes that is with coilovers and yes I am back to a better ride height due to bashing the underside.

Im running a no mufflers on my car. At idle it sounds like a v-8. The only reason why I took the mufflers off is b/c I wanted it to be loud. I had Thrush Turbo's on and they finally burnt out, but just wasn't loud for me. My dad said that I won't get my car real loud b/c I don't have the split manifold. My car has stock headers and I looked and looked and getting a split manifold is totally out of the question. Now I got the mufflers off and I still think it ought to be louder Yes. How much louder will taking the CAT off make it? BTW, If you are wondering, I replaced the mufflers with 2 1/2inch in and 4inch out Hedman Header Tips. It gives it a good tone b/c of the bigger tubing. One more thing....would making the exhaust tubing a touch bigger make sound greater or not?

Larger tubing would make the car have a deeper tone, but is said to actually be restrictive some how. Don't know why they say that, but they do.

Oh, one more thing, you said that you have an SLP cold air induction kit on your GTP. Is this better than the Thrasher cold air induction? Also, I have seen advertisements for 'Cool Blue' air filters. They seem much like K&N, but I didn't know which one was better.
