slowest year for vette?

like 1/4 mile and top speed? I saw a 81 at the truck run a 17 second e/t. The guy said it was all original and he was the only owner. I was shocked to see a vette so slow. So was 81 the weakest? It would make since..the 81 Z28 only made I think 185 net hp but still a vette is lighter. Anyways vette guys help me out cause this is wierd.

The 53 Corvette was probably the slowest, with its inline-6. Most of the late 70's & early 80's (80-82)vettes were the slowest after the 53. The pollution laws at the time didn't help & the HP numbers weren't that high either.

Even funnier is that the EPA era of 73-79 was the biggest selling
years for the Corvette hitting 50k+ in 77. Maybe 195HP...?

In those years owning a Corvette was status. Imagine that

actually, it was '79 when the sales peaked. Yes, I believe you are right about the 195hp; that's what mine came with stock (though now it has more than double that). There was one year in the late seventies when all California cars got a 305 making about 175hp (I think). Again, this was all due to the strict emissions and need for improved fuel economy. Its really not that bad in comparison with other cars of the era.

Precisely, and that should be duly noted that when people
criticize the performance numbers of the mid-to-late 70's,
that it wasn't JUST the Corvette that suffered, but all vehicles,
but especially the ones that had performance reputations or
muscle car status.

Still, I was 10 years old in 79' and that era is still what drew
me to the American Legend. Horsepower only 195...? What's
horsepower. It was the Corvette and that's all I needed.

This would probably be the slowest running corvette
http://www.thedieselpage.com/readers/vet.htm

As far as stock form, the 75 Corvette wins. The 165hp rating was by far the lowest. http://www.idavette.net/facts/75.htm

Even the California smog 305 made more hp http://www.idavette.net/facts/80.htm
