coilover problem
Alright, so we just recently replaced the left and right axle and a few days later my problem occured: Whenever I go over a bump, there is loud rattling coming from my front left wheel area. We raised the car to see what's going on, and noticed we can move the left coilover up and down (not the spring, the entire thing). None of the other coilovers shake like this or make any noise like this, just the left one. I also noticed some rubber was lose at the base of the coilover. I know next to nothing about coilovers, so any help would be greatly appreciated =).

Is there compression on the spring? Does it just kinda float around while driving or does the car actually rest on it keeping it compressed?

The spring is nice and tight, while the car's up and while it's down. The whole thing will shake up and down. Did I mention the coilover doesn't shake up and down while the car's not in the air? It's only lose when it's raised....

What kind of coilovers? sleeves or real?

Sleeves are coil springs with a threaded collar used on stock or performance shocks. not so good
Real coil overs are basically the same thing but they are engineered to work together. Usually costing atleast $750. These are wonderful

How do you mean work together
 ? My springs are definately not stock, and my coilover is threaded with two bolts that i loosen to move up and down to lower/raise my car. They are not attached if that's what you mean...

id check those little rubber grommets hooking your suspension up to the shock tower. When i first installed my coil-overs i somehow forgot the grommet on top of the shock tower and it rattled when i hit bumps.

I think chopstick might be close to what the problem is, I'm not sure how to get them back in though. They are the "not real" coilovers, I guess the previous owner got cheap ones, so whatever. Do you know how to fix the rattle or is there a howto on it chopstick?

ok, the sleeve coil over's spring isnt compressed when the control arm extends down into a pothole or other various low spot. thus making his noise. the strut fork is back inplace and secured. also, it cant be moved. we tryed to lift the LCA up but all it did was move the whole suspention. my thoughts are that either the locking nuts on the sleeve were moved. or the strut tower itself got bent somehow. the noise didnt start till yesterday morning, but im not too sure what it is, i mostly work on domestic older american cars.
