95 Satanstar Wiper Arm Question

I had to take the whole entire front cowl off several weeks ago to have an alignment done. After I got the WHOLE damn thing back together. I noticed the right side wiper arm had come loose from the stud it snaps on to. I really couldn't get to it very good with it back on the van. But I was able to get a pair of needle nose vice grips in there and put it back on.

It's been working fine since then until this morning when I turned them on. I was in a hurry, so I turned them up as fast as they would go and the right one quit working. So I'm assuming that rod came back off again. Does anyone know if that is a serviceable part that wears out. I had an old plymouth duster that did the same thing one time. You had to replace the bushings in the ends of the wiper arms and all was well. I was just wondering if these are similar.

I looked in Rockauto and they don't seem to list the stud, but they do list the whole wiper linkage unit.

Yep, I seen that, the bushings are non serviceable. That's where the problem is. I just drilled a hole all the way through the ball/stud that it snaps on to. I put a small stainless steel bolt through the bushing and the stud with a flat washer on top of the bushing and a regular nut with a nylock nut jammed up on the other side and left it loose so it could rotate. So far, so good. I knew it would work, but for how long is the question. I think one they had at RA was around 60 bucks. The dorman was over 200 bucks and about the same at AZ and advance.

I guess I'm going to have to revisit your window motor tutorial. Because that's next on the list. The right one hasn't worked as long as it's cursed my presence. The left one got stuck down about a month ago and I was able to hit it with the end of a screwdriver while holding the button down and it finally went up.

We haven't rolled it down since. But here's to hoping that since I've been a VERY good boy this year. Santa will leave me a much more dependable, easier to work on vehicle under the tree. That being said, I want to wish wiswind and all the members here at AF a happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
