Remote Start issue
Bought a 2008 Grand Prix (no remotes) and am trying to determine if it has remote start, anyone know the build code? On some GMs it's AP8, don't know if it's the same for the 08 GP or not. I assumed that it had remote start, so I purchased remotes with the remote start option, but when the remote start is activated, the lights come on, as they should, but then nothing happens. The dash read out says 'remote start disabled'. Can anyone help me make sense of this? Thanks TB1
BTW, I don't have the AP8 code on my build sheet. Thought it may another code.

Re: Remote Start issue
You can go to any GM shop with your VIN number, and they can give you a build sheet, with all the codes, and the meaning of each code......
How did you program the vehicle to the two new remotes? What you might try, is go into the Driver Information Center or DIC, go into personalization(should be explained step by step in the owner's manual)....the remote start could be disabled there, and all you have to do is change the option..... If you don't have a manual, it's available online at Pontiac.com Copied this from the owner's manual: If a remote start is attempted and is unsuccessful, the Driver Information Center (DIC) will display REMOTE START DISABLED. Vehicles that have the remote start feature are shipped from the factory with the remote vehicle start system enabled. The system may be enabled or disabled through the DIC. See “REMOTE START” under DIC Operation and Displays (Uplevel DIC with Trip Computer) on page 3-55 or DIC Operation and Displays (Base Level DIC) on page 3-62 for additional information. If your vehicle does not have the DIC feature, and remote vehicle start was installed at the dealer/retailer, you will need to have the dealer/retailer enable or disable the system. Remote Start Ready If your vehicle does not have the remote vehicle start feature, it may have the remote start ready feature. This feature allows your dealer/retailer to add the manufacturer’s remote vehicle start feature. See your dealer/retailer if you would like to add the manufacturer’s remote vehicle start feature to your vehicle. REMOTE START DISABLED If your vehicle has the remote start feature, this message displays if a remote start attempt is unsuccessful. This may be caused if any of the following conditions are true when a remote start attempt is made: • The remote start system is disabled through the DIC. • The key is in the ignition. • The hood or the doors are not closed. • There is an emission control system malfunction. • The engine coolant temperature is too high. • The oil pressure is low. • The hazard warning flashers are turned on. • The maximum number of remote starts or remote start attempts between ignition cycles has been reached. • The content theft-deterrent alarm is on while attempting to remote start the vehicle. See “REMOTE START” under DIC Vehicle Customization on page 3-89 and Remote Vehicle Start on page 2-7 for more information. |

Re: Remote Start issue
Just buying remotes isn't going to help you. You have to go to a dealer, or someone with a Tech II tool to program them. There is no way to program them by yourself on a 04+.
Also the RPO codes can be found under the spare tire.
