Good Price???

Hey, Newbie here to the 240sx world. I have a SE-R Spec V, but I am scared to mod it. I would like to put down about 320 hp to the wheels, and I think a 240sx is the way to do it.

I have been watching and reading up. I really like the Kouki (97-98) body style, but I think the Zenki (95-96) is more in my price range.

I found two cars that I am interested in, and can't decide between the two. I want to bounce this one off the experts to help me decide.

1.) 98 240sx base model. 110k miles, 5 spd, AC, Pwr windows, Pwr Locks, Alloys, Spoiler, etc... no leather, no moonroof, no ABS brakes (LSD). Price is $7000.

2.) 95 240sx SE. 132k miles, 5 spd, loaded... with ABS (LSD), no roof, no leather. Price is $4500.

Are they both a good deal? Is neither a good deal? Is one better than the other?

I saw here http://www.zilvia.net/faqs/archive/koukiconversion.asp
that I can get the appearance I desire for about $1200. I would spend more on a CF hood anyhow.

I am not sure if I want to do KA24de- T, or JDM SR20det. I don't want to start that debate as it has been played out on this forum. But, which of these two cars is easier to work on...? I heard something about the 95 not having ODBII, thus easier to tune? Is this true?

Thanks in advance.... sorry for being a Newbie, so please don't flame me for stupidity.

Seth

this al depends on how much you have to spend and your plans for the car, you need to have some kind of idea where you want to go with the car before buying it, but I'll go ahead and give you my opinion

as long as the cheaper one is in good condition I would go with it and then just buy a new KA24DE for maybe $1000 probably less and it will have about 30-40k miles on it, that brings your price to 5.5k(still 1.5k less than the 98)which leaves money for some mods of your choice like: a light weight flywheel, clutch upgrade, exhaust, intake, shortshifter, lightweight pulleys, brakes, wheels and tires, bodykit, paintjob... the list goes on and on

even if you have plenty of money to buy the '98 and mod it up I'd say go with the '95 cuz that just leaves more money or you to make the car just the way you want it

hope that helps, good luck

i agree. option number 2. 20k extra for $3k less makes more sense as long as the rest of the car is all good.

my goals

My goals...

I want s14 or s15 looks...
http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...Nissan%20240SX

This was already posted here, but I think this car is beautiful (not the wing though). I know this is an s15 front, not an s14, but, I have seen some really pretty Kouki front ends also. Not sure which body kit to get, but I definitely want the tapered headlights... with HID if that is possible.

So... I want late model Silvia looks, and the performance to match the look.

I would like to dyno around 320 rwhp. Hope to be in the high 12's. Not sure how much hp that takes? In other words... I want to beat the Mustangs, Camaro's, Trans Ams, etc... V8's that plague the city I live in. I want to destroy the high schoolers and their riced out Honda's.

Any tips on the OBDII thing?
Also, as I stated before... not sure if I want to go SR20det or Turbo the KA24de. I know both will easily reach 320 hp. But, which is more streetable at the point? Which is more reliable at that point? Which is less expensive to get to that point?

Thanks for the advice..... much appreciated!!!

Seth

KA parts are already in america so...

SR parts are not so...

If you want the car for drag, keep the KA.

http://www.back-yard-productions.com/CONROY.htm
This may help convince you to keep the current KA...

ka-t is less expensive and faster.... but the sr would probably be more reliable because of less miles and i've heard some people blow the ka engines when they don't turbo it right.

btw i think that guy could get by with that wing, on most cars it looks awful but i think that guy can pull it off because the rest of the body looks awesome

if you have a sr-t or ka-t you can do almost anything you want with looks

well you dont have to worry about getting the turbo right if its all together already, and is a stock car in japan...

im not downplaying the ka-t, i do think it is the better engine out of the two.
