Re: tahoe heater problems

The issue is not able to get defrost, seems to be stuck on vent. Multiple threads say the heater control valve is the problem.

if your stuck on vent then this maybe on a 1997 the vacuum lines.. not sure with that model year. now with the 1999- up they use motors to open these vent doors.

look under the hood for any vacuum lines running to the air box and other controls . should be 5/16 inch hoses...same under the dash ...then you may have to open up the duct work could be debris causing this issue as well..

'98 & '99 Tahoes & Subs have what's called a "Water Valve Actuator". Not sure about your '97. Doesn't really matter any way as it has nothing to do with your issue of no defrost. Your issue is with the "mode control" door (floor, vent, defrost). This door can be controlled 1 of 3 ways. Vacuum, cable or electrically. The "electric" control motor is located under the dash on the left side of the heater plenum just to the right of the gas pedal.

Have a look and let us know what you've got.
