Going To Track

Hi,

I probably am going to Bradenton track this Friday as long as it doesnt rain or something else doesnt hold me back.
They have something called Club 1320. Its a thing that starts at 8-2 AM. they call it legal street racing and u can run the 1/4 mile and get timeslips and also run against friends or otehr people there. It cost 10 bucks and u get unlimited runs.
The problem is this is my first time at a track racing.
I mean I have a 1990 Honda Civic LX with intake and exhaust.
It also has a 5 speed tranny.
When I launch I should launch at 3500-4000 rpm correct?
Also, I bought a APC short shifter which cost me 60 bucks.
I didnt want to get one off of Ebay because of low quality.
Will that help my ET time?
What should I bring to the track that night so I wont look stupid for not bringing it?
Anyone else have first time experiences they would like to share?

Thanks,
Owen

Well i wouldn't launch it at 4k. I'd say 3 - 3500 would be good. It also depends on your tires condition. Short shifter doesn't really improve your time slips.

wow 10bux for unlimited runs, i wish my track was like that, 20bux for 3 runs, no more.

all you should need is a helmet which you can prolly rent from the track, anything else in the car will just weigh you down.

between runs, lift your hood, to help cool the motor off between runs.

here i think its like $20 for unlimited runs ... but so many people go that most people dont get in more than one run.

helps to cool down the motor walt, colder the intake air, the more power you get to the wheels.

I live in Florida about an hour north of Tampa.
The track is 2 hours away so I havent been to it yet.
Btu its the closests 1/4 mile track.
Otherwise we usually race by our local airport which has a couple country roads in the middle of nowhere surrounded but trees.
It is already marked off for the 1/4 mile, lol.

taking some un-needed weight out of the car will help. When I went to the track, I took out all the "unecessaries" - like the jack/spare tire, all my tools, and other junk I carry around.

In between runs leave the engine running for a little while until it cools off...the engine actually gets hotter after you turn it off, because the coolant isn't moving around in the engine, so idling will help (and with the hood open as someone else recommended.. I dunno if our engines put out enough heat to worry about a bag of ice...I have seen that once before too tho - lol.

My father-in-law (future f-i-l, after I'm married) lives about 45 mins north of Tampa, but I can't remember the town...I'll find out and let you know. My G-parents used to live in Bradenton and I have a shirt there from when I visited when was a kid & my parents in Sarasota - lol

Good Luck.
