Buying Intake etc. for a swapped engine
So if I swap an engine into my little POS civic, do I buy a civic intake or one for the swapped engine? Are there any other quircky things with swaps and the parts you buy for them... I guess intake just gets me b.c I'll have a diff intake manifold, but I'll need the twists and turns for my stock engine compartment on the cold air wont I?

well i heard that you use the del sol vtec one for a b16 civic. and i think it was b16ej that said that you would use the gsr one for a b18c1 civic.

no, buy the intake for the car, not the engine, 99% of aftermarket intakes have big enough piping to fit over the swapped motor's TB anyway. buy it for your car, not for the motor.

Sorry, you don't buy for the car. You buy for the engine. You cant use a SOHC intake in the GSR manifold because of the different design of the GSR intake manifold. You should'nt use SOHC CAI on DOHC because the piping is smaller and the flow is still too restricted. I have had both the B16 and D16 AEM CAI and the piping difference is significant. Yes the hose will fit with some effort but the piping diameter is still restrictive. When it come to aftermarket parts for a hybrid you buy engine specific bolt ons and chassis specific exhaust (may need some modifications). A SOHC header will not fit a DOHC.

So I guess I gotta go back my question of does the pipe for the engine's CAI still fit into my engine bay ok and get down and get me cold air? or is this just going to take a bit more effort than before?

i just think it be easier to modify the part of the intake that attaches to the throttle body, then have to worry bout wether or not the down part of the intake will line up right or even close to the opening in the car.

I already did. For the GSR swap get the GSR one. The Filter placement will be in the same place as it is on the GSR, in front and below the tranny. For the B16 swap, get the Del sol VTEC or the 99-00 Si. The filter placement in regards to the engine bay is the same, in the hole next to the radiator. For an H22 swap........... I don't know.

well when i swapped my d15 for my b16 i just used the same intake, and it fits fine.

....so what you guys are reaaaaallly saying is it doesn't matter that much one way or another? perhaps I'll get better horsepower oneway perhaps the other way is easier to install... wish some other peeps would join this thread and put their input in too

As I've said before, you can still use the original intake from your SOHC. It will fit but the piping diameter is not sufficient for even stock performance. You are actually hindering the performance but yes, it will fit. That's about all you can scavenge from the original motor though.

Aight how about this for reversing the question: what if I buy the intake for my planned swap now so that I can get an intake right now, but not have to buy a brannew one when I swap? Is my perf going to be ok? is it worth it?

I'd say just wait. It sounds like the swap isn't going to be for a while so just save the cash for the swap. I modded the shit out of my single cam and found out I still wasn't happy so I swapped and sold all the shit that was on the engine with it. Money down the drain.
