Drum Brakes on 05 Sunfire/Cavalier

I am trying to replace the drum brakes on my 05 Sunfire/Cavalier.

These particular drum brakes have a W shaped high tension spring which is very hard to tighten down and also the emergency brake cable doesn't seem to want to stay connected after i pull the slack back out of the cable.

Frustrating to say the least any help is greatly appreciated.

I did not see a 'W' shaped spring.
