brake and abs light, strange noise

A few days ago I was stopping in a parking garage and my 98 cavalier kind of jerked like the abs was coming on but i wasn't stopping hard. Then a few days later, the brake light started coming on along with the abs light. The emergency brake was not up and when i put the car in gear the car kind of clicks three times and then the brake and abs lights come on. It only does this sometimes but its usually more often than not. I dont know whats going on. Does it need a new relay for the abs? or is something wrong with the abs system itself?

That's something you need to take to the dealer to get looked at! If the ABS light is on than you have a problem with your ABS system without a vomputer plugged in their is no telling what is wrong.

The exact same problem is happening to me. I had to get on the brakes quickly and I yanked the parking brake to avoid an accident and ever since then my ABS light and parking brake light have been on.

Any suggestions or resolutions please reply or email me @ [email protected]

Thanks.

I've had the same problem for about 3 years. I've never taken it to the dealer. But, I took it to Goodyear. They hooked it up to the diagnostic machine. They claimed it was the "ABS speed sensor", which I had replaced. It lasted about a week before I started to have problems again. It did work for a short time. The next time they claimed it was "Wheel speed variance." Whatever the hell that means.I've had, and still have the ABS light come on, but never the brake light. Does your car suddenly get a grinding noise from the front of the car, and start to slide slightly, like the brakes are failing to "grab"??. That's what mine does, and continues to do all the time. I have a 1998 2.2 5spd.
