Warning beeps
I have just purchased an '01 LS and there is a constant 5 beeps from under the dash. I have read the posts regarding this and realize it could be a defective srs bulb ( which does not light up at all ) I just do not have the time to take the dash apart right now, so I would like to know if I can just disconnect the beeper and ( hopefully ) in three or four weeks get into what is causing this.
I do not have the funds to take it to a repair shop and do not want to disconnect the beeper if it may cause the computer to go haywire. Any advice would be a great help. Thanks |

Re: Warning beeps
The chime is built in to one of the multi-purpose modules and cannot be (easily) disabled. You'd spend more effort trying to disable the chime than it would take to replace the bad SRS bulb.
Where did you purchase the car from? In some states there are laws against selling a car with known faulty safety equipment. I'd think an SRS light, which might have been removed to "mask" a diagnostic code causing the SRS light to stay on, would fall under such a category. Considering how little On time this bulb should experience, they should not fail very often. -Rod |

Re: Warning beeps
Thank you for your advice. I am not sure of the law here in Ontario, Canada regarding the srs systems.
I bought this car last weekend for my son, from a small used car lot which is a 2 hour drive from where we live. My son drove it home and told me that after approx 30 to 45 minutes of highway driving the beeping started. Now I know some shady car lots remove warning lights, in the hope of not having to deal with a possible expensive repair. I would think that if this was done, the beeping would have started right there on the car lot. As it is now, the beeping starts every time it is driven, so maybe the bulb did blow ? So it looks like I will have to find the time to pull the dash apart and check that bulb. So glad I did not waste my time trying to disconnect the beeper. Thank you for that

Re: Warning beeps
Since the beeping started part way in to the maiden voyage home, I think you are right, the bulb probably failed on the trip. Hopefully that's the only issue.
