Yes, the Windstar 3.8 is the Essex engine.

Front wheel drive version is different block from rear wheel drive.
1999 was a major change year, significant differences from 1998.....there are other year-to year changes as well.

i wonder if the top ends are the same? as i have a friend that is scrapping a thunderbird with a 3.8 supercharger and i got to thinking How much fun it would be to have a supercharged Mini-Van.....Just imagine how many people you could pi**-off when they try and overtake you on the freeway or from a stop light
 .. anyways maybe i'll pick it up and think about it some more not like it has an expiry date on it if i put it in storage
