lesson in humility

i'd like to tell you a little story about my first experience in racing my civic.

first off i'm a honda lover, my first love was a 90' civic lx that i preceeded to trash 3 weeks after i got it (damn camaro) ever since i had that car i was hooked on honda's

this story happened about a week after i got a 95' civic dx. it was my first car with stick and i loved the way it zoomed around....een though it was all stock and had more blow-by then a chili contest...but hey it was something. well i was on was on a trip back east to visit family when a little bastard with a dodge shadow pulled up next to me on the highway. when i saw him i proceeded to snicker. so thinking i could waste him i downshifted and sped up. i was going about 90 and then i saw the worst thing in the world.....HE PASSED ME!!!!!! i'm not talking like slowly, he ZOOMED by me. i felt so ill.

that experience is what led me to get more interested in the proformance aspect of my car. when i told my friend about the eperience he laughed and made fun of my car. that made my goal of making my civic faster a lot more intense. i have since replaced my engine, got the standard upgrades(intake, exaust) and new ignition and plan on rebuilding my stock engine for decent boost and a small shot of nos. i'm also beefing up the suspention and lightening the overall weight. i don't have any real preformance goals, i just want a quick car.

i guess this story is just to get it out and i was wondering if anyone had any stories about their first or just laughable experiences. mine just gave me more ambition to work harder so i can get the money to make my car somethng to admire by others

With my latest car, I'm usually the one doing the laughing...

Bone stock 1992 SE-R.

I have had no less than a Honda Accord, a Honda Civic, and a Dodge Neon SXT driver ask me if my car had a turbo.

It's bone stock, looks like a fridge, but has beat a fixed-up 2000 Civic Si. I love it.

Even if I lose, it's just a box-Sentra.

BTW, the fastest cars like mine have run stock is 15.2.

Don't feel bad. I own a 93 Shadow ES which has a 3.0L V6. It puts down quite a bit of power for a light ass car. I've eaten many civics at all speeds with that little car

When I first got my '89 Mazda Mx6 GT Turbo I didn't know much about racing. Iknw a decent amount aboutcars and perfomance vehicles from my dad who used o dragrace at the pro level, but as far as getting in a car and actually racing it myself, I was a bit in the dark. I onetime remember pulling next to a completely stock 95ish Eclipse GS. We revved at one another and took off. Neither one of launched hard but that wasn't where the problems started. The problem was that as we were running, I didn't realize that taking the car to redline was the point of racing. Instead, I was shifting at around 4500, slightly higher than I did when just driving normally. Needless to say he beat me, but not by very much. I was convinced that if given a rematch I would waste him, and it just hadn't been my day, lol.
After that my knowledge base skyrocketed and I proceeded to go with a TKT turbo upgrade among other things to boost my Mx6 to 250whp

I had a bad run in with my Max and a Suped up Z28 SS (I think it was a Z28, I know it was an SS my friend knows the guy), needless to say come second/third gear I got my ass beat

I knew I wouldn't win... but he surprised me by passing a bit faster than I expected. Oh well
