2000 Century Door Lock Problem

Hi, a friend of mine has a 2000 Buick Century, When you hit the unlock button on the driver door, or any door for that matter, or the keyless remote, the doors will unlock, but if you hit lock on the doors or the remote the drivers door locks, but the rest of the doors will not lock, they can only be manually locked for some reason, should I just tell him to take it to a dealer? Or does someone have an idea of whats going? I think they are getting power beacause you can hear the actuators...but they arent fully functioning obviously....

If the vehicle is within warranty, take it in and get it fixed. If not, I'd lubricate the door lock actuators. The are probably dry or starting to seize up. Good Luck.

Send a message via AIM to tman
The dealer will tell you that the actuators all need to be replaced.

I work for the dealer and no new actuators aren't the only thing it could be. The drivers door is isloated from the other 3 doors. It could just be a bad relay.

I have a 98 century and I don't think you have a probably with the door locks. You just have to hit the button twice to unlock the rest of the doors. I believe it is a safety feature so if a person was trying to get away from someone and only wanted her driver door unlocked she could do that and no one else could get in any other door. Dan

Re: 2000 Century Door Lock Problem

If your hearing the actuators work but the locks arnt changing positions you could replace the actuators but thats the $$$ way out. The actuator has a rubber end on it were it engages the lock, it's
molded on & has a tendancy to losten over time, & makes the action sloppy. GM has a repair kit for these rubber ends if that turns out to be the problem & it's a lot cheaper than replacing the assy.
The problem is their not listed in cataloging for all cars & if I remember correctly the main listing was for C/H body cars, delta/98, park/lesabre, bonny.
You get 2 per pkg, sorry I dont remember the part #
because most parts people {not me} want to sell the $60.00 act.
Hey, I found the bulitin, part# 25664043
Good luck.

That would work if he was working on a C or H boby but he has a W body which doesn't have that problem.

Re: Re: Re: 2000 Century Door Lock Problem

Never said he had a C/H body, but that style of actuator has been used for over 10 years now. The bulitin covers '91-'97 models, not only C/H, but U,F,W bodies. And before you say it I know were dealing with a 2000 model here. Pull an actuator/lock assy off & see if that's even the problem, my bet it is. Compare the kit to what you have, no harm in that is there? It's only $6.00 or so
& if lour local dealer does not have, they can tell you who does show stock if you dont want to take a chance & order unseen {not returnable}. I've used these kits for many repairs. Please get back to us & let us know how it goes & what you found.
Flatrater have you ever used this kit? It's not listed for a lot of applications, including some on the TSB that it pertains to.
It's one thing at a dealer to hang an act to prevent a comeback, but a family/friend & I'd try to save them a $ or two. Again, good luck.
